Vanity Makeover

Fridays are suppose to be about fashion here at CoziNest, but as part of my 31 Days of Flipping Out, (a writing challenge I have accepted), I thought I’d share my recent vanity makeover with you. I thought a vanity where cosmetics are applied would be a great flip for Fashion Friday. My sister, Kristie and I have so much fun when we are together and this project was no exception.

My vanity had been an eye sore to me for quite a while and I knew I wanted to do something to it, but I wasn’t sure what. Originally, purchased as a sofa table in the early years of my marriage, we had not paid much money for it, so it was a great option for an upgrade. Kristie sent me a picture of a bookcase she had recently painted with chalk paint and then I was certain what I would do. She and I are in the process of adding the service of repurposing/repainting furniture and accessories to my decorating business, so we are in for a lot of work and even more fun. She has an eye for these things and you’ll see more of her work during my 31 Day Challenge this month.

She and I spent about  3-4 hours on this project and we were both thrilled with the results.

After wiping everything down, we painted each piece with Amy Howard’s One-Step Paint in the color Chelsea Square. This paint worked like a charm and is $4-8 cheaper than the popular chalk paint brand.

The next and final step is applying the wax. We used the dark antiquing wax and I love how it turned out.

We were so proud of our work when we took a step back and checked it out.

The project was very easy, but I have to admit I used muscles and joints that I hadn’t used in a while. After crawling out of bed the next morning, it was so exciting to stumble into our master bath and see this pretty set waiting on me.

Be a sweetie and don’t look at the mess in the mirror. We were working in a tight space, folks. And, to borrow a fellow bloggers term, it was sheer “happimess”!

Sitting here to apply all of my creams, lotions and potions to fight the aging process will at the very least, make me feel pretty. Thank you, Sissy for all your help! I can’t wait for our next project.

Have a great weekend everybody!
